Overview

In Short:10.5 miles round trip. Point to point double track.
Summary:A great route, with life all around in the old canal bed, the surrounding forest, and the river. Pileated woodpeckers. Red, grey, and black squirrels. geese and gulls. deer. And not likely you'll spot any humans.

With three parking lots on this route, you could start at any of the three, and head in either direction to the next...

Lots of opportunity to admire the ingenuity of earlier Americans, particularly at the Monocacy Aqueduct, a bridge which carried water, barges and mules over the broad Monocacy River. Find this marvel at mile 42.2, and learn more here.
